notes from the yukon developer meetup

They came, they saw, they filled the two tables at Zola's.

A big thanks to the folks that showed up for the first Yukon Developer Meet-up. I have been meaning to post on this prior but hadn't found the time.

The meat of what I took away was that people definitely enjoyed the "geeking out" and that we had one "marketable" idea bounce around was excellent. I hope I didn't belabor the point that Drupal is awesome for community websites and is amazing in general (after Trac failed to install properly on my archaic iBook)

I know that some folks took away some "things to look at in the future" tasks and I hope to have more feedback on those in the weeks that come.

I would like to note that the majority of the skillset around the table was web related so I hope to see some nifty thoughts from Geof, Jason, Shane, Chris and Ryan.

Job Opportunity with Bell

I hope you don't mind me posting this, as it is a little OT.

A friend of mine who is a team lead with Bell based out of Vancouver is looking to recruit 2 software developers.

I informed him that I didn't know of any personally except for the few whose blogs I was recently exposed to.

He is looking for the best, and has been travelling to recruit. If you think you would make the cut, please feel free to e-mail me and I'll put you in touch with him.

Collective brainpower is a good thing

I sure had lots of fun and it's worthwhile doing a meet-up again, perhaps in April once things have settled down with YTG year-end. We've already started building a bare-bones prototype of the app and will have something to show soon. Just have to balance the "nifty" with the "billable", as per usual.

As for improvements, not much from my end. I was quite pleased with the conversations had and we both walked away feeling re-energized and excited about the possibilities of making our app come to life. Collective brainpower is a good thing.

If we can get more people out to the next meet-up, that'd be the only change I could think of. Though, it matters not the numbers, rather the quality of people attending.
