I need help. Musically.
I have been a loyal listener of CBC Radio 3 - streaming, podcast and the weekly interactive magazine (which I miss) that kicked it all off - for 8+ years now. Unfortunately, I have pretty much ignored music outside of the CBC R3 scope for almost a decade now. My iTunes shopping list reflects this - Metric, K'Naan, Great Lake Swimmers, Stars, Black Mountain, Buck 65, The New Pornographers, the list goes on (and on).
I have no idea what mainstream non-Canadian indie music is anymore. I used to pride myself on being somewhat aware of music trends in other regions; now I would be hard pressed to think of a non-Canadian band that I am interested in or aware of!
This may just be the aging process catching up with me and it is reflected in my music interests; which I was lamenting. So my lovely wife has thrown down the guantlet - buy something not Canadian. Which I immediately failed at by purchasing the most recent Metric album - it's great, but that isn't the point!
Are there tastemakers out there that can get me out of my own incarnation of CanCon? Preferrably available on iTunes or download - cuz buying CD's is harder up here in Whitehorse.

musical foraging
Sat 04/24/10 by leeo (not verified)They're not all available on iTunes, but I find TheSixtyOne to be a good source for musical leads, with a nice bias towards indy-types. YMMV
Thanks!
